Free flower/plant walks at Big Basin Redwoods State Park:
Here are walk dates for 2011. Walk with docent Scott Peden on the THIRD Saturday of each month. Two exceptions: not the third Saturday of May (which is the Semperviren's Fund Birthday party) and not the third Saturday of June]. Walk is 4 miles and hours, i.e. 1 m.p.h. A different walk is on the Sunday immediately after the THIRD Saturday of each month: 5 miles and hours. The above walks leave at 10 AM from Park HQ in Santa Cruz Mountains. Also walk with docent Scott Peden at Rancho del Oso (Big Basin S.P.) on the second Sunday of each month. Two walks, tentatively set at: 11 AM for the .8 mile loop at the Rancho del Oso nature center, for 1.5 hours; 1 PM at the Rancho del Oso Ranger's Station for the Alder Camp loop: 3 miles, for 3.5 hours. Also available: walk with docent David Auerbach on the SECOND Saturday of each month; meet at BBSP HQ in Santa Cruz Mountains. |
Winter walks, if cancelled by rain, will at least have a flower slide show in the Semperviren's room in the Headquarters building -- unless the park is closed due to extreme weather.
These Saturday and Sunday walks are free.
